I wanted to blog today about something that I have gained a strong testimony of since I've been out on my mission- the fact that we ALL need God. Every single one of us.
Mosiah 4:19 says this
" For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have, for both food and raiment, and for gold, and for silver, and for all the riches which we have of every kind?
I've gained a strong testimony of this truth over the last 2 months of my mission. It is so true that we are all reliant on the Lord for the things that we have. Every thing we have can be linked back to Him and His mercy and love for us, His children.
Something that I think happens a lot is that as good things happen to us, we start to take credit for those things. We lose sight of the fact that all of our blessings come from Heavenly Father and this can invite a dangerous mindset called "pride." We need to remember that we are all God's children and therefore we are all equal in His eyes- He does not love any one of us more then another person. Sometimes we compare ourselves (and our blessings) to others and we can start to think that the Lord favors someone more than another and therefore is giving them more blessings then we are receiving at the time. Truth is, the Lord blesses us each, individually, every single day. We just have to stop comparing ourselves to others, and take a honest look at our lives and then we will see how the Lord has blessed and provided for us. He knows exactly what we all need, and exactly when we need it.
One way that I have learned to realize and be appreciative for the blessing that I have received from the Lord is through serving others- Mosiah 4:26 says:
"And now, for the sake of these things which I have spoken unto you—that is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may walk guiltless before God—I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath, such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants"
Whatever we have, we should share, because everything we have comes from the Lord. When we realize this we are more grateful for our blessings and for the things that the Lord has provided us with. And when we serve others, we grow in love and compassion and work towards growing in our "Christ like attributes."
A band that I love has a song about our need and reliance on the Lord- and I want to share it all with you. http://youtu.be/0m5BiVgLSpQ
Remember we are blessed when we share the things we have been blessed with, we are all reliant on our Heavenly Father, but we can be assured that He will always bless us with exactly what we need because He is aware of us.
Very true, we can't expect God's greater blessings if we choose to ignore and do not appreciate the many blessings, known and unknown, we receive every day.
ReplyDeleteWhen we are willing to help others we are participating in God's wise plan. As you said, we learn so many things about who and what we should be like, when we help God, help others. Our desire to live a more Christ centered life increases accordingly. This is when we receive the blessings on this earth that matter most; and secure our place in Heaven, with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
